Post 1 :Aug 27th

This week we read and watched about New Postmodernism and Psychedelic Art. Psychedelic art is any kind of visual artwork inspired by psychedelic experiences like drugs. But to me personally Pschedelic art is more about art coming to life through vivid colors, lights and bold textures. As a graphic designer, I see it as a statement piece that screams loudly like a red stop sign. This trend grew into such a fandom that most Europeans were hooked. Another trend that seemed to be big in this era was rock music. With the combination of psychedelic art and bands such as
Pink Floyd or The Beatles, the trend Pop Art was born.

The Push Pin period began in the 1960’s and was founded in New York. This was when artists searched for other international styles. After watching the video in class on Wednesday, I have grown to appreciate the work of Glaser and Chwast.  Other than marveling the work and the history behind it, what really interested me was the connection between these two artists. I remember overhearing that Glaser had such a difficult time communicating his ideas because Chwast did not speak English. Instead, he resorted to communicating through his art.  And that’s what both artists did. One would draw half of a piece, and the other would finish it. I think it’s brilliant!
