Helvetica: A Font? Or A Movement?

In the past I always considered Helvetica font to be mundane and very boring. I was always like "dear God not this font again!" or "I hate this font." And I think that was due to the fact that well my generation was so used to seeing the typeface that we became immune to it entirely. Helvetica is a widely used sans-serif typeface developed in 1957 by Swiss typeface designer Max Miedinger with Eduard Hoffmann. But enough about the history… After watching the Helvetica video in our class something in me surprisingly changed. It was kind of like I saw the light? Or I was reawakening to the font. I guess I had an epiphany? (Haha something to scratch off my bucket list). Who knew there was so much power behind a font? It’s so daring and modern, but it somehow manages to have balance? So during the film I kept asking myself how the hell is that possible.

As a design I enjoy seeing balance. It’s like there is just enough space between the letters to 1) still have an effect on your design 2)to still be legible.

Now to apply this information to my two degrees I started looking at design and advertisements that use this font. THERE ARE SOOO MANY! Bottom line I now have a new opinion on this font!
